MARIETTA , Ga. - A medical examiner near Atlanta said former San Diego Chargers safety Paul Oliver suicide .

Oliver was released by the New Orleans Saints after training camp in 2011 , and returned to San Diego 's season . |
Chargers backup safety Darrell Stuckey , who played with Oliver for two seasons , was stunned by the news .
" For me it was a surprise because that is where he was when he was with us , there are techniques you can imagine it happening , " said Stuckey . " So you just never know . Never a good time or a good reason , and I just send my prayers to him and his family . "
Paul Oliver 's death committed suicide
The Chargers offered condolences to the family of Oliver in a statement .
" All the individuals in the family today Chargers sad after hearing the news regarding Paul , " the team said . " He is a side of our family for five years . At the age of only 29 years , he is still getting his lifetime . Currently, all our thoughts and prayers are with his family during the most difficult times . "
Oliver played in order Chargers from 2007 to 2011 . His best season was 2010, when he first eight times and getting 62 tackles .
" He is a good man individual , " said Stuckey . " He is a great player . He played with a lot of passion . He loves in order to get around the ball , trying to get his hands on the ball and get it out always . Individual he is one man who played with some energy when he was on the pitch , and he wanted to get on the field, but he was able to , and will do anything . "
Oliver 2007 fourth -round draft pick from Georgia added after he decided not qualify academically senior year .
